Arrived in Glasgow at 10 am Saturday, our hotel is downtown Glasgow. Lots of people shopping. Steve & I went out walking, the double decker buses were interesting, but more bewildering was seeing all the cars driving on the "wrong" side of the street and steering wheels on the right sides of cars. Ate lunch at Willow Tea Room - very small upstairs and very good food. Sunny and nice when we went in and raining during and after our meal. Found out the Brits don't tip but the tourists do. Thistle Hotel - very nice and excellent food at supper and next morning breakfast. At supper we ate with Nubar and Carol and had excellent conversation. .
A quick tour around Glasgow Sunday morning this park had many statues, this is of Prime Minster Gladstone(the only Scottish prime minster)
Sunday morning was beautiful with sun and blue skies, We have found this is unusual, the norm is rain, which we hit later in the day.
Next stop for the day was Alloway, home of national Scottish poet Robert Burns(1759-1796), A poor farmer who became famous in his short life time(37) for his poems and best known for Auld Lang Syne.
His thatch roofed house is still standing,,,4 rooms, 2 for the animals and 2 for living quarters,
His famous poem Tam O Shanter has Tam riding for the brigadoon(bridge over the Doon River) with witches after him. Auld Kirk (old church), site of the poem, was built in the 1500's and was unused with roof caved in when Burns knew it.
Glad to hear your trip is going well. It's great reading about your experiences in real time.
