Hadrian's wall & Abbottsford

6/13/11
Hadrian's wall was built by the Romans as a border between England and Scotland and stretches 73 miles from coast to coast.  We stopped, walked through a cow pasture and up a hill to get to one of the remaining sections of the wall.

Melrose Abby:
Melrose Abby is a still beautiful although long deserted and falling into ruin.  It is said that Robert the Bruce's heart is buried here.   He was the first king of Scotland

Next we traveled on to Abbottsford, home of Sir Walter Scott.  Best loved Scottish novelist.
He wrote both poems and historical novels(Ivahoe, Rob Roy).  His home is in a valley by the river Tweed

There are 9000 books in his library, Shive is jealous!

The lowlands of Scotland are beautiful, rolling green hills with pasture after pasture dotted with sheep and cattle. Their are many stone fences as well as wire and wood

  1. Abbottsford looks awesome - love seeing the pics - it's neat to see what you are seeing! Love ya! Sierra says "hi, love you!"

  2. Tim & LaRayne are really enjoying the pictures too. Just so thrilled you are in Scotland. Don't let Steve bring home one of the skirts, I mean kilts. I'm guessing his knees aren't his strong suit.
